Cheruchakki Chola

The stream flowing through the Chittanda Poogode forest in the Erumapetty Gram Panchayat, near North Kanjirappally in Thrissur district, is one of the many natural wonders hidden away by nature, known as Cheruchakki Chola. This beautiful area has slowly started attracting tourists who wish to witness the charm of Cheruchakki.

When we hear the name Cheruchakki, we can understand that there is a story behind it. Long ago, this area was ruled by a fierce old man. After many years without children, the forest goddess blessed him with a child, who was Cheruchakki. The goddess warned the old man that if he let Cheruchakki out of the forest, the forest would be destroyed. Later, when Cheruchakki grew up and was ready to go out, the old man kept her confined in the forest. The story goes that it is Cheruchakki's tears that flow as the Cheruchakki Chola.

On the way to the Chola, one can see plenty of trees. It is during the monsoon season that Cheruchakki Chola flows abundantly and becomes even more beautiful. During this time, many tourists arrive after hearing about it. Cheruchakki Chola is located about 23 kilometers from Thrissur town. To reach the Chola, one must walk through about a kilometer of forest. There are approximately seven small and large waterfalls in this area, which are more abundant during the rainy season.

The state tourism department has plans to implement an eco-adventure tourism project that includes streams, waterfalls, check dams, picnic spots, and watchtowers in this area. It is hoped that this will attract more tourists to the region.
